On February 14, Vice President Iwona Malinowski and Secretary General Barbara Stadnik joined thousands of Canadians, including Ontario Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Dowdswell, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and many others at a celebration of life for “Hurricane Hazel” McCallion, who had served as Mayor of Mississauga for 36 years.

During Hazel’s time as Mississauga Mayor, Mississauga grew to become the city with the largest Polish population in Canada, witnessing the construction of the largest Parish in St. Maximilian Kolbe Church as well as the John Paul II Polish Cultural Centre. She became a figure of national importance who always expressed her admiration for Canada’s Polish community.

May she rest in Peace.
